Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks – Best for a naturally creamy texture.
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream – Adds richness and a velvety smoothness.
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) whole milk – Lightens the texture, making the mash fluffy.
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick, 115g) unsalted butter, cubed – Creates a rich, buttery flavor.

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Potatoes:
    • Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt to the water.
    • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  2. Drain and Dry:
    • Drain the cooked potatoes and let them sit in the pot for a minute to steam-dry. This removes excess moisture, making the potatoes fluffier.

  5. Combine and Season:
    • Add the cubed butter to the potatoes and fold until melted. Then slowly pour in the warm cream and milk mixture, stirring gently until smooth and creamy.
    • Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired, and serve warm.
