California Sushi Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sushi rice, cooked and seasoned
  • 10 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1 cup imitation crab (or real crab), shredded
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • Soy sauce for dipping
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions, then season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  2. Prepare the Ingredients: Slice the avocado and julienne the cucumber. Shred the imitation crab.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Place a sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Wet your fingers and spread a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge.
  4. Add Fillings: Lay strips of avocado, cucumber, and shredded crab in a line across the rice.
  5. Roll the Sushi: Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the nori over the filling, pressing gently to keep the roll tight. Seal the edge with a little water.
  6. Slice and Serve: Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi if desired.
