Chicken Fried Steak

🥩 Crispy, golden, and absolutely irresistible! Perfectly seasoned chicken fried steak with creamy gravy is pure comfort on a plate. 😍✨

Ingredients:

  • 4 beef cube steaks (about 5 oz each)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1½ cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Gravy:

  • 3 tbsp pan drippings (from frying)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steak
    • Pat the cube steaks dry and season lightly with salt and pepper. 🖐️
    • In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
    • In another shallow dish, whisk together buttermilk and eggs.
  2. Bread the Steaks
    • Dip each steak into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk mixture, and back into the flour mixture.
    • Press the flour onto the steak to ensure a thick, even coating.
  3. Fry the Steaks
    • Heat ½ inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Fry each steak for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. 🍳
  4. Make the Gravy
    • Remove all but 3 tbsp of the pan drippings.
    • Add flour to the drippings and whisk for 1-2 minutes. Slowly whisk in milk, cooking until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Serve
    • Plate the chicken fried steak, drizzle with creamy gravy, and enjoy! Pair it with mashed potatoes or biscuits for a hearty meal. 🍽️
