Classic Tuna Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups elbow macaroni (or any pasta of your choice)
- 1 can (12 oz) tuna in water or oil, drained and flaked
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 cup frozen peas (or fresh if you prefer)
- 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for crunch)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the baking dish)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional, for added flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the Pasta:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to the package directions, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the Tuna Mixture:
- While the pasta is cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
- Add the chopped onion (and garlic, if using) to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, sautéed onions (and garlic), cream of mushroom soup, milk, frozen peas, and dried thyme. Stir to combine until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble the Casserole:
